About the organization
Building Excellence in Students Today (BEST) Brockport Education Foundation is a non-profit organization that provides resources to support students academically, provide classroom grants, and offer program enrichment. Our logo embodies the spirit of collaboration and teamwork that we wish to convey to students, faculty, and staff. Consider joining or supporting BEST with your time, talents, and/or resources.
The Foundation meets the second Monday of every month at 6 p.m. in the BCSD Board of Education Room.

Alicia Fink, President
For 28 years Alicia was a Spanish teacher in the Hilton, NY School System. Her interest in helping better education and in offering the students and the teachers opportunities to bring excellence in schools made her become active in the BEST in Brockport organization. Alicia is a long time resident of Brockport and her two sons are graduates of the Brockport School system. Since her retirement from teaching, Alicia has been active in several community organizations such as the Western Monroe Historical Society and Walk/Bike Brockport Action group.
Leslie Bull, Vice President
Leslie has been a resident of Brockport for 40+ years. She is also a retired BCSD Elementary/Middle school teacher. Her husband is Doug Bull who is also a retired BCSD High School science teacher. They have two sons, Dahn, 32, and Nathan, 29. Their sons are both Brockport High School graduates. Leslie is currently working at The College at Brockport State University of New York as a Field Experience Liaison.
april Vangelder, Treasurer
April VanGelder is the current Board Treasurer. April resides in Sweden Village with her boyfriend Bill Donofrio, his two children, Billy and Jacob and April’s two children, Abigail and Nicholas, that attend BHS. As a former Brockport School Board member they realized the need for a foundation to fund additional educational opportunities for the students in Brockport. As a founding member of the BEST foundation April has enjoyed volunteering with this passionate team. She currently works for Xerox as an Operational Manger with a billion dollar leasing portfolio, banking operations controls, cash receivable teams. She has a team in Webster and also have a large team located in Jamaica where she travels too often. April spends most of her free time attending events with her kids. She enjoys entertaining friends and family and spending time traveling when we can. It’s been a privilege to be part of the BEST Foundation and providing these experiences for the kids in our community.
Paige pye, secretary
Paige Gouveia Pye is a graduate of Dickinson College and currently works as a Senior Field Representative with Scholastic Book Fairs. She considers it her personal mission to make sure every child has access to books they want to read. She is past President of Brockport PTSA and is currently the PARP liaison as the NYS PTA Genesee Valley PARP Chairperson. She has served on the BEST Education Foundation since its inception as Secretary. Paige has resided in Brockport since 1992 with her husband, Richard. All three of her children are graduates of Brockport Central; Mackenzie (’14), Madison (’16) and Matthew (’18).
joan fenton, director
Joan Fenton is a retired teacher from the Brockport Central School District where she also spent 10 years on the Board of Education. Currently she serves on the Alumni Board, the Multigenerational Advisory Committee, The Town/Gown Committee, and the Board of the Friends of Drake Memorial Library, all at the College at Brockport.
Richard fenton, director
Richard is an emeritus faculty member at the College at Brockport where he taught 41 years in the Department of Business Administration and Economics and in Delta College. He is on the Foundation Board of the college and also on the Multi-generational Advisory Committee, and the Town/Gown Committee. He served on the Sweden Town Board for four years.
josephine matela, director
Ms. Josephine Matela, a former Village of Brockport Mayor, has lived with her husband Joseph A. in the village for 35 years. She attended the State University College at Brockport and is currently the owner of The Red Bird Cafe and Gift Shop which she has operated since 2002. A mother and grandmother she enjoys cooking, gardening and the ADKS. “Helping students become all they can be and more is a joy. I am proud to be a part of this fabulous organization!”
Andrew Pacitto, director
Andy Pacitto has been a resident of Brockport for over 25 years. He and his wife Jeanne moved here shortly after their son was born in 1992. All three of their children, Jonathan, Jessica and Julia, graduated from Brockport High School. He is Past President of Brockport Rotary, Past Board Member of BISCO and the Treasurer of the Brockport Arts Festival. He served as member-at-large for the Brockport Merchants Association and has worked with the Brockport Food Shelf and Toy Shelf in the past. He is currently a High School Math Teacher in the Spencerport Central School District.
Andy received his B.B.A from St. Bonaventure University, his Masters from Roberts Wesleyan College, and is currently pursuing his Administrative Certification from SUNY Brockport.
lynn moulton, director
Lynn Moulton is personally committed to the success of students and decided to join the BEST Foundation to help them succeed in their mission “…to provide the BEST educational environment…”. Lynn is proud to also be involved in Brockport PTSA, Genesee Valley Region PTA, Boy Scouts, and, a few years ago, youth sports and Girl Scouts. Although her degree is in chemical engineering, she currently does contract work and occasional grant writing for education-based initiatives. Let’s make sure our youth are prepared for their future!
Sarah harradine, director
Sarah Harradine is a long-time resident of Brockport, attending BCSD from Kindergarten through 12th grade. After graduating from BHS she went on to graduate from Ithaca College with a BS in Business Administration. Sarah earned her MS in the Science of Instruction from Drexel University, and 10 years later an MS in Literacy Education from SUNY Brockport. Sarah has been a substitute, preschool, and kindergarten teacher, and currently teaches Nursery Pre-K at The Harley School in Brighton. She resides in Brockport with her husband, BCSD VP Jeff Harradine, and their three children, Lucy (OMS), Lily (Hill), and Andy (Barclay).
Dr. Lesli Myers-SMall, BCSD Superintendent and best liaison
Brockport Central School District Superintendent Dr. Lesli C. Myers-Small has dedicated her life to the pursuit of high quality education. She has designed and conducted workshops and presentations to elementary and secondary students, undergraduate and graduate students, varied educators and many others at the local, regional and national levels. She presented a TedTalk at the 2017 TedxROCHESTER event. Her style is humorous, straightforward and sincere, and she encourages people of all ages and backgrounds to creatively use their abilities and talents to serve others.
Being an esteemed writer throughout her tenure in the field of education, her work has been published in journals, articles and books. Dr. Myers-Small made her debut as a book author in 2018, with the publication of “Life’s Leadership Lessons.”
Terry ANN Carbone, President, bcsd board of education and best Liaison
Terry Ann Carbone is a graduate of SUNY Brockport receiving a BS and MS in Education and a CAS in Educational Administration. After a 42-year career in Public Education as a Kindergarten teacher, Elementary Principal and High School Principal, Mrs. Carbone retired as the Supt. of Schools for the Lockport City School District. Presently Mrs. Carbone serves as the President of the Brockport Central School Board of Education and has been a member of the Board since 2014. Terry resides in Brockport with her husband, Fred. Both of her children, Heather and Freddy, are graduates of Brockport Central and her grandsons, Toby and Jesse are in the fifth grade in Brockport.
